Southmead Y.C. Girls Football Club

Southmead Y.C. Football began building teams in 1997 after the "Voice of Southmead", a local community action group campaigned for better facilities in Southmead, from this both the boys and girls football teams started.
The first few years the girls played Pro5 football, we had some very skilled players, such as, Chloe Williams, Kate McDonnell, Sarah Quinn and Shelley Goodman, to name but a few, these girls turned into good role models for the next generation of younger players.
We play in the "Bristol Girls League", in the 7 a-side for the under 12s and 11 a-side for the under 14s and under 16s.
We have a steep learning curve this year because it is our first year at 11 a-side.
But we have a great laugh taking part , even if we lose we have a great time.
We travel to Derby's taking part in tournaments , we always have a laugh on the coach, playing bingo and having a sing-a-long.
A lot of older girls have moved on to women's clubs after becoming 16yrs old and we don't have a women's club (yet).
This is a little bit from one of our players:
"It is fun when we play together and we get along together, we travel away to tournaments and matches, we have treats if we do good.
We train together and some of us go to the same school, if not we see them around the streets when we go out."--
Alyta Norman (13) U14s team.
